Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Anjuli Persaud, Staff Reporter

As we all know, January 17th was Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a holiday in the United States that is observed on the third Monday in January. People promote the rights of all races and religions because of King’s anti-segregationist teachings. King was an influential civil rights leader who was best known for his work on racial equality and ending racial segregation in the United States. His life and achievements are remembered and celebrated on this day. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is usually celebrated with marches and parades and with speeches by civil rights leaders and politicians. Individuals and organizations also undertake volunteer efforts in support of what is often called the MLK Day of Service. Also, around my house, people have been putting words on their lawn in tennis balls such as, “PEACE” and “LOVE”.
