Premier League: Popcorn Thriller at Top of the Table

The current Premier League season has had a rocket start to it. Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool are in a three-way tie in points for the Premier League Trophy. Manchester City are considered the first team place due to a goal differential of 18. Other teams such as Arsenal, Tottenham, Bournemouth, and Wolverhampton are trailing the top three by 5 points. These stats are not the only indication of a thrilling season but the intensity and results of the matches played have given the audience 90 minutes of enjoyment… besides the City vs Liverpool game.

Arsenal have started to figure out their number 9 situation with starting Aubameyang and Lacazette together which have showed an electrifying score of 5-1 vs Fulham with a brace from each forward. Manchester City have played where they left off last year, high passing rate football with a quick press to win the ball back. Kevin de Bruyne’s injury has shown minor signs in the last few games until the match at the star-struck crowd of Anfield. Manchester City were in look for a main player to lead them at Anfield but with de Bruyne out, there was no signal of this.

2016’s winner Chelsea have also had glimpses of a great team in recent fixtures after conceding two against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea star and Belgium international Eden Hazard is currently leading that goal stats table with 7 goals outscoring prolific strikers such as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, and his compatriot Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku’s Manchester United side have struggled this season. According to Forbes.com, the 2nd most valuable sports team across the globe and the most valuable soccer team, the red side of Manchester have had a record of four wins, one tie, and three losses. This past weekend’s match vs Newcastle all spotlights were on manager Jose Mourinho after United’s poor season start. Newcastle were up 2-0 at halftime but the Red devils were able to come back and win the match 3-2 with a 90th minute goal by Alexis Sanchez. “As a friend of mine was saying to me this morning, if tomorrow it rains in London it is my fault. If there is some difficulties with the agreements of Brexit, it is my fault,” he told BT Sport.

The club owners will still have the closest eyes on Mourinho but the team as a group have not looked the sharpest in months. Two teams that have shown surprising form are Bournemouth and Wolverhampton as both teams are trailing 5 of the main 6 clubs. Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser have inspired an exciting dynamic attack of the Cherries. The newly promoted side from Division 2, Wolverhampton have had an astounding start. The defense lead by Rui Patricio who have only allowed 6 goals this season (4th best defense in the league according to goals allowed) and midfield inspired by the club’s most expensive signing Joao Moutinho and Portuguese compatriot of Ruben Neves.

There are still 30 more match weeks of what is considered to be the best league in the world. The next 30 match weeks will see who will survive regulation, make the cut to the European competitions and last but not least who will be holding the magnificent silverware of the Premier League Trophy by the end of May.
