Futbol not football.

“Futbol” known as soccer in America is currently growing at a rapid pace in the States. There are millions of kids across the nation playing soccer at a youth age at local clubs or academies and developing their skills. All these kids growing up dream of becoming global soccer stars such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Neymar Jr. Currently ,the name being talked about is America’s next major athlete, Christian Pulisic. Pulisic is living the American Dream of all these youth soccer players across the nation by just signing a major contract with soccer powerhouse Chelsea F.C. on January 2nd. Transferring from a major German league team Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea F.C. with a deal worth $73 million dollars, the youngster will be on the spotlight at Stamford Bridge (home stadium) playing in the world’s most viewed league. He won’t join the Chelsea squad until the summer as he wants to finish the season with Dortmund as they are looking to capture the Bundesliga (German League) title.

The Pennsylvania native grew up in Hershey and played for the major club team of PA Classics. In February 2015, Borussia Dortmund signed 16-year-old Pulisic and assigned him first to their U17 squad and in Summer 2015 to the U19 (According to MLSsoccer.com). After scoring 10 and assisting 8 in just 15 games with the Dortmund youth teams, Pulisic was then called to join the first team over winter break. Ever since that moment, the American prospect has performed tremendously well, not only for club, but on the national level with 23 games played for the Men’s national team and having scored 9 goals which, 7 of them came in the 13 World Cup qualifying matches for the U.S. He has also won U.S. Soccer Young Athlete of the Year in 2016 and U.S. Soccer Men’s Player of the Year in 2017. At the moment, Dortmund are sitting on top of the Bundesliga table with 6 points over Bayern Munich who have won the title for the last six years. In a recent interview with ESPN FC, U.S. star Goalkeeper Tim Howard had this to say about the youngster… “Christian is different, he is special in ways that is a once in a generation. He has the opportunity to put his name up there with Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan and the greats that we know.” Pulisic will be a must-watch player across the globe for the 2019-20 season and a name that will soon be remembered in U.S. soccer history. The 20 year old Hershey native will make an impact across the nation for this wonder sport of “futbol.”
