Steroids and HR Records in the MLB

Faith Roberts, Staff Reporter

Should MLB recognize the homerun records of players from the steroid era?

In my opinion, I believe those who used steroids should be recognized for their home runs. For those who are unaware of what steroids are, steroids are a type of drug that athletes use to improve performance. Steroids are enhancement drugs, meaning what you have already is taken a step further. Athletes are not just born with talent, it takes lots of practice. Those who are on the MLB teams have trained for many years; they do not just pick anyone to be on their team. So now combine their athletic talent and an enhancement drug, it makes a good player. I understand that it is classified as a drug but not all drugs are considered bad for you. We take allergy medications, vitamins, over the counter painkillers, etc. and those are all drugs. The MLB shouldn’t just stop recognizing their home run records to those who used steroids just because it’s a drug and some players used them. MLB players took them to be better at their sport, to continue to improve their abilities. They still made accomplishments, why should that be taken away from them? They are still athletes and that wouldn’t be fair to them.
