Student Athlete Spotlight: Keven Acosta

Being a student athlete is not an easy task. Not only do you have to balance practices and games, but grades as well. The Amityville Echo has decided to interview some special student athletes within our own school. The Student Athlete Spotlight for the month of November is Keven Acosta.  #11, a senior, plays center back on the boys varsity soccer team. He was an integral part of the team this season as they won the Suffolk County, Long Island Championships, and the New York State Championships. 

Q: Why did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer because it seemed like an easy sport at first.

Q: What do you love about soccer?
I love how soccer makes me forget about all of my problems when I’m playing. 

Q: How long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing soccer since my foot first touched a soccer ball at 4.

Q: How do you feel about your growth from last season to this season? What about the team?
My growth from last season to this season was mainly mental and to me every game counted this year.

Q: What do you think the team could have done better this season?
I feel like my team could have focused more on enjoying the moment. They were always serious during the game.

Q: What motivates you?
This year my motivation was mainly seeing all my friends win and seeing them cry tears of joy.

Q: What do you think makes a great player?
Consistency and discipline makes a great soccer player.

Q: How does it feel when you make a goal?
Making a goal in an important game makes you feel like you won everything in the world.

Q: How do you handle the pressure when you’re on the field?
The pressure on the field is always high especially during finals. I handle it by just playing my own game and not worrying about any mistakes.
