After the Education Department announced that colleges and universities would receive student financial aid information in mid-March, institutions adjusted their timelines accordingly. However, it is already mid-March and FAFSA still hasn’t sent out any financial student aid information. Now claiming the FAFSA will be pushed back until mid-April. A majority of colleges used May 1, traditionally known as National College Decision Day, as the deadline for accepted students to commit. But since financial aid offers are likely to go out in April, thanks to the latest and most disruptive delay in a rollout of the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid, a growing number of institutions has pushed their commitment deadlines to June or suspended them indefinitely. On a positive note, hopefully, this setback with financial aid gives students some time and flexibility to think about their college decisions and use the extra time to come up to reflect on going to college as freshmen.
