Mr. Zwerling is a well-known teacher for the Amityville School District who has been working and educating at Amityville Memorial High School for a long time. If you were to ask any student about Mr. Zwerling they would only say good things about the man. Mr. Zwerling is a relatable educator who mixes school lessons with humor and fun and manages to balance his family life and school work to optimize his time and give the best of himself to both worlds. To show my continued respect and appreciation for Mr. Zwerling, Amityville ECHO has decided to ask Mr. Zwerling some simple questions to show you who Mr. Zwerling is to me and the school district.
Who am I here with today? – “My name is Mr. Zwerling, but you already know this since I had you last year”
What is your position in Amityville Memorial High School? – “I am both an Algebra and Calculus teacher here at Amityville”
How many years have you been working in Amityville? – “I have been working here for 11 years, around the time my daughter was born. So I would gauge around 2009 to 2012 ish, I was not a permanent teacher, I and my coworker Mr. Greiss were excessed around the same time and they would bring me back from time to time as a substitute teacher. Eventually, they let me finally go back to being a full-time math teacher”.
Who is your favorite coworker? – “My favorite coworker has to be Mr. Fallot. Mr. Fallot is another math teacher in the school and at one point we were forced to gather and after that period we grew a bond. We hang out a lot outside the school, probably more than I do with any other coworker in the school. Mr. Fallot is just a good guy and I have much respect for him.
What is the best department in this school besides your own? – “I would have to go social studies, but science comes in at a close 2nd. I like science more than social studies, but every one of my students seems to like social studies, and the teachers in the social studies department are incredibly nice and good people to work with, so I am going to stick with the social studies department as my answer.”
What is your highlight of the year? – “Definetely seeing the work ethic that my AP calculas class has. My AP Calculas class has a lot of bright minds and hard workers. They’re constantly engaged and focused and are never afraid to ask any questions. I can see my students having bright and successful futures with how hard they work”.
