The sound of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” played by the AMHS Band, filled the air of the gym on Friday as students and staff filed in for a lively pre-Homecoming pep rally.
School spirit and unity were on display, as the AMHS Varsity Cheerleaders welcomed teams and performed a variety of stunts. Students, dressed in school colors, cheered on their friends and classmates as the energy echoed throughout the gym.
The event featured a variety of musical performances, a Varsity Cheerleading routine, various team introductions, and even a friendly challenge that left competitors racing to be the first group to successfully pass a hula hoop between them without letting go of each other’s hands.
Student Council advisor, Ms. Wilsher, introduced the crowd to the Homecoming Court. These students were nominated by their teachers, and then voted on by their peers. The results would be revealed during halftime at Saturday’s Homecoming Football game. The court was made up of:
John Arango
Jesus Barrios
Saul Fernandez
Adonis Lyons
Lizette Acosta
Tiffany Asbell
Kayla Canales Avalos
Erin Kreuder
The spirited rally then culminated in the eagerly anticipated “Pie a Cheerleader / Staff Member!” activity. This was a fundraiser created by Varsity Cheerleading where students voted by purchasing tickets in people’s names. The top 3 votes went to sophomores Aleesha Castro, AnnaMarie Gomez, and teacher Ms. Whitney.
“The School Spirit in Amityville Memorial High School is on Fire!,” shared Principal Dr. Cardone. “Fantastic participation took place by all participants. Positive student behavior was noted by all staff. We are looking forward to having more events to continue to enhance our school culture!”
