On Friday, October 11th, between 2:00 and 3:00 PM, students gathered in the cafeteria to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The event began with an engaging presentation on Hispanic heritage led by Mrs. Rodriguez, setting the stage for a series of fun activities. Students then tested their knowledge with a Hispanic Kahoot trivia game, competing for a $15 Amazon gift card. Following the trivia, Mr. Bueno gave a demonstration of traditional Dominican drums. Next, Mr. Abate and his band gave an amazing performance of “Oye Cómo Va” and “Havana.” The event wrapped up with students presenting their projects and poetry, including a memorable moment when one student humorously praised VapoRub as the ultimate Hispanic remedy, followed by a food service.
A huge thank you to the Hispanic Heritage Club, World Language Honor Society, and the World Language department of the school for making this event possible. Thank you to Mrs. Rodriguez, Mr. Bueno, Mr. Abate, Mrs. Castro, Mrs. Whitney, and other faculty members who helped in this celebration.
This event is just a preview of what’s to come on November 1st, when Amityville Memorial High School will host its Hispanic Heritage Celebration for the community. From 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the auditorium, the evening will feature keynote speaker Senator Monica Martinez, live mariachi music, student performances, presentations, raffles, and much more. We look forward to seeing you there!
