DIWALI
Diwali is a Hindu holiday known as “the festival of lights.” It is celebrated to give thanks and to show that light will be more powerful than the darkness; that good is more powerful than evil. It is to celebrate the start of new beginnings. Depending on where you live around the world, this celebration can be observed anywhere from 1 to 5 days. It starts with a 5-day-long fast before the actual holiday. Some people like to hold this fast till the end of the month. Diwali celebrates the birth of the god Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. On Diwali night, many people from around the world light fireworks, light many candles around their house and doorsteps, and even have big festivals and parades with completely lit floats to celebrate. Some traditional foods and treats eaten on Diwali are Barfi, Jalebi and Gulab Jamun.
