Last weekend, the AMHS Drama Club lit up the stage with their fun and colorful production of Legally Blonde: T
he Musical. Directed by Mr. Garcis, the show with catchy songs, great acting, and plenty of laughs, was a big hit with audiences.
Seniors Madelyn Martinez and Delilah Cutillo starred as Elle Woods and wowed the crowd with their strong singing and funny, heartfelt performances. From the moment they stepped on stage, Martinez and Cutillo kept everyone smiling. Martinez told us that her favorite tune to sing was Legally Blonde “because it’s angsty.” Surprisingly, Madelyn stated that she’s “never hated a character more in her life… The constant positive energy was so draining and overwhelming that it demanded a double casting.” When asked about her favorite character to play over the years, Martinez quickly responded with “Donna from Mamma Mia,” another crowd favorite
The rest of the cast was just as impressive. Jhett Burke played Emmett, Elle’s supportive friend, and gave a kind, genuine performance. Destiny Harding brought a ton of humor and energy as Paulette, the hairdresser, especially during her scenes with Richard Chester, (Kyle the UPS guy) and her hilarious song “Ireland.” Even the “voice” of the dogs (Marcus Faublas) gave audiences a laugh. Other standout performances included Tiffany Asbell as Pilar, Sydney Carter as Margot, Carla Benitez as Serena, Jose Angel as Professor Callahan, Daniel Glasgow-Yarde as Warner, Victoria Pierre-Louis as Vivienne, Naomi Chavez Duran as Brooke, Annabella Arezzo as Enid, Melanie Mangru as Kate, and April Kenny as Chutney.
The music, led by Amityville alum, Mr. McGlone, and the band kept things moving with energy and excitement. The dancing, choreographed by Miss Tiffany and Senior Carla Benitez, was especially fun to watch, especially during “Whipped Into Shape,” where the cast implemented jump ropes into the action.
Stage crew was managed by Lizette Acosta and Kayla Canales Avalos, with help from Alessandra Pons, Janaiyah Randolph and Amoi McLeod O’Connor. The team did a great job making each scene feel real, from the beauty salon to the courtroom. And of course, there was plenty of pink, just like in the movie.
But the show wasn’t just about jokes and fashion. It also had a strong message about believing in yourself, standing up for what’s right, and never giving up despite the stereotypes that others might attach to you.
Overall, Legally Blonde was a fun and inspiring show full of talent, heart, and humor. Congratulations to the cast, crew, and director for putting on such an entertaining and unforgettable production!
