Amityville Artists At Work

Terry Holman, Student Life Editor

Tracking through the sand, looking at the walls around them, our Amityville artists start overflowing with creativity. On October 15th, 10 of our high school artists went down to Cedar Beach to fill the walls with inspiring and original murals. These help not only to inspire the community but show off our artist’s skills. Hasslyn Hurtado, Tatiana Khan, Sarah Ledesky, Ava Tucciarone, Danelli Alcantara, Laruen Schilling, Taniya Johnson, Iyana Haddad, Mehki Stevenson, and Rene Carbajal Rivas represented Amityville by creating beautiful pieces of artwork. Each student submitted a design and two were chosen by the art department in Amityville High School. Hasslyn Hurtado’s piece “beach” and Sarah Ledesky’s piece “Merman” were the two chosen designs. 7 other schools painted their own murals with Amityville. This event was sponsored by the Babylon Arts Council and was facilitated by Babylon artist Ron Becker. These students created art work that will be shown to the community for years to come, bringing joy to every person who looks at them.
