The Amityville Boys Varsity soccer team (14-1-1) started its postseason playoff run on Thursday, October 27th when they took to a blustery home field in their Suffolk Class A quarterfinal matchup against #8 Islip (7-5-3). The game was livestreamed courtesy of the Amityville Broadcasting Network.

The Islip Buccaneers threw everything they could at the Warriors in the first half, keeping the score 0-0 until the final few minutes. With just 3:33 remaining in the half, left center back Kevin Acosta targeted striker Robert Perez who flicked it to Jeffrey Hernandez who buried it in the net to get the Warriors on the board. With just under two minutes left before halftime, a throw in from Acosta to Perez led to a banger of a goal by center midfielder Hugo Rodriguez.

Alan Funez scored in the second half, putting the Warriors ahead 3-0 with just under 30 minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Matthew Katz recorded his TENTH shutout of the season, and the clean sheet now sends Amityville into the Suffolk Class A Semifinal on Monday, October 31, 2022. The Warriors will face the John Glenn Knights of Elwood in a home game that is sure to be a highlight of Halloween. When asked about the team’s performance after Thursday’s game, senior Kevin Acosta said, “We really played as a team– like a family.”

Monday’s winner will take on the winner of the East Hampton v. HH Hills West game in a battle for the Suffolk County Championship scheduled for 5:30 pm on Thursday, November 3 at Comsewogue High School. If the Warriors make it to that game, Section XI will be charging an entrance fee. When asked about the team’s chances moving forward, senior Stanley Louis said, “It’s all about the effort. As long as we put in the effort we can beat any team.”

The ECHO will be cheering for the boys on Monday and hopefully for another 4 games after that!
