SPIDER-MAN PS4 REVIEW

Donte Drew, Staff Reporter

Spider-Man for the PS4 is the first installment in Insomniac’s Spider-Man/Marvel series of games, which immediately made waves in the gaming world upon its release. In this game, you play as Peter Parker, who is also the iconic superhero known as Spider-Man. As you begin the game, you find yourself eight years into Spider-Man’s career as he faces off against old and new enemies throughout his journey.

Before diving into the gameplay, let’s first discuss the game’s story in a summary and review. (Please note that this review contains spoilers for both the story and gameplay of Spider-Man PS4.)

The game starts with Peter on his way to take down Wilson Fisk (also known as the Kingpin). After successfully apprehending him, both Peter and the police have a nagging feeling that something is off about Fisk’s seemingly quick arrest. As a result, Spider-Man begins looking into it and discovers that taking out Fisk created a vacuum in the criminal underworld, leading Peter to tackle a threat that might be worse than the one he just put away. Along the way, he fights off many villains, both old and new. But Peter also has to struggle with his relationship with his friend and ex-girlfriend MJ as they slowly reconnect in complicated situations.

Now, let’s talk about the gameplay. The gameplay in Spider-Man PS4 is nothing short of phenomenal. Insomniac nearly perfected Spider-Man’s web-swinging, missions, and combat, with only the stealth aspect feeling a bit lackluster. Here’s a closer look at each gameplay segment of the game:

Web-swinging: One of the standout features of Spider-Man PS4 is the web-swinging mechanics. The game’s mechanics allow players to swing through New York City at breakneck speeds using Spider-Man’s web-slinging abilities, providing an exhilarating and immersive experience. This feature was always an overlooked aspect of the previous Spider-Man games, so it’s fantastic to see it expertly designed in this game.

Missions: Spider-Man PS4 offers a wide variety of missions that keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. Each mission type offers a unique challenge, making it easy to get lost in the game for hours at a time. Whether you’re stopping a crime in progress or stealthily infiltrating a villain’s hideout, the missions in Spider-Man PS4 are always exciting.

Combat: Spider-Man PS4’s combat system is one of the game’s most impressive features. It offers a fast-paced, fluid combat system that allows players to utilize a wide range of moves and abilities. The combat system is easy to learn but difficult to master, offering a satisfying challenge for players of all skill levels. The game’s combat system features a variety of combos, gadgets, and special moves that can be unlocked as the player progresses through the game. The game also offers different enemy types that require different strategies and tactics to defeat, adding an extra layer of depth to the combat system. Overall, Spider-Man PS4’s combat system is well-designed and offers a fun, engaging experience that keeps players coming back for more.

Overall, Spider-Man PS4 is a fantastic game that provides players with an immersive and enjoyable experience. The game’s engaging story, well-developed characters, and impressive gameplay and visuals make it a must-play for any Spider-Man fan or action-adventure game enthusiast. Whether you’re a die-hard Marvel fan or just someone looking for a great game, Spider-Man PS4 is a game that is sure to please.
