“This season the Varsity Baseball team looks to keep improving. Welcoming back all but two players from last year’s team, the 2025 lineup has the benefit of experience. Players to watch out for are, Junior Center Fielder Darell Sanchez, (a top player on Long Island), Junior Shortstop and team Co-Captain Aidan McCullough, Junior Pitcher Alex Waye and Senior Catcher Jeremiah Luciano. A very special shoutout and welcome back to Senior Co-Captain and Outfielder Armando Castillo Hernandez, who returns to play this season after missing all of 2024 with a Torn ACL.”
At the start of the month, we reached out to Coach Zider for his thoughts on the upcoming baseball season. Now that the boys have more than a half dozen games under their belt, it’s interesting to see how on point his predictions were.
The team, enjoying a 5-2 record, took down first place Smithtown Christian on Thursday, April 24, by a score of 12-5. Junior, Alex Waye pitched a 4-hitter, recording eight strikeouts, allowing just two earned runs. Relief pitcher, Jostin Cabera pitched four strikeouts in three innnigs. Senior, Armando Bonilla went 1-for-2 with a two RBI double, while Senior, Jeremiah Luciano went 2-for-3 with a two RBI double.
All of the seniors will be celebrated at their Senior Game on Tuesday May 13th at home VS Greenport.
