High school can be chaotic. At least that’s how Joshua Pineda, a freshman, describes it. “People don’t even do warm-up exercises in gym, and not many people are seen doing the pledge anymore,” he said in a surprised tone. Even though it’s busy in high school, he’s enjoying his first year and creating fun moments. He’s been seen playing for the school band and participating in the homecoming parade. He was also on the jv soccer team during the fall season and plans to play other upcoming sports.
His favorite memory so far was seeing SpongeBob during the pep rally. He loves the school spirit he’s seen so far and hopes to keep seeing it. Both outside of school and inside of school, he loves playing soccer, a sport he started because of his sister. “Soccer teaches you to be your best,” he said. “Your teammates become like family to you.”
However, he faced an impactful event a few years ago when he dislocated his ankle while playing soccer. But that didn’t discourage him from doing what he loves. “I went for a challenge against an older kid,” he said. “It hurts to walk and run after that, but I learned my lesson to not test my limits.” He also shared another story about a time he slipped in the bathroom, hitting his head on the shower, and he bled a lot. “It was scary at first, but kind of funny now,” he added.
He’s known for being helpful, respectful, and funny. Once, he helped a classmate learn how to use a calculator in math class. His favorite subjects are gym and English, and by the end of this school year, he wants to make the high honor roll.
After high school, he wants to work in construction, just like his dad. “My dad owns a business,” He said proudly. “He worked really hard to get where he is, and I look up to him.” His parents’ support and motivation help him a lot.
He describes himself as very outgoing and says he’s “always looking for food.” Even though he’s lactose intolerant, he still eats pizza because it’s too good to give up. He enjoys his culture, especially eating pupusas and spicy food. He grew up with Salvadorian parents and wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Overall, Joshua is an entertaining person to be around, who you can always count on to make your day with his random jokes and behavior.
