Meet Allan Dodson-Isabell, a dedicated and talented member of our school’s varsity basketball team. As an 11th grader, he exemplifies passion, perseverance, and team spirit both on and off the court. With a drive to excel academically and athletically, Allan has become a key player and a source of inspiration for classmates and teammates alike. In this spotlight, I will dive into his journey, achievements, and aspirations as a young athlete making a mark in our school community.
From a young age, Allan showed a natural talent for basketball, often spending hours practicing shots in his driveway or learning his skills from his parents coaching him. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a serious pursuit, leading him to join a club team (Empire Youth Athletics), then the E.W. Miles Middle School team, and eventually a spot on the AMHS varsity team. (Sophomore year)
On the court Allan is known for his strategic thinking and leadership skills. Whether it’s. making a game-winning shot or encouraging his teammates during a tough game. He consistently demonstrates dedication and sportsmanship. “Grind harder than everyone else” He shares. “Its not just about winning; it’s about working together and pushing each other to be better”. When asked about who inspires him he mentions “My biggest role model is my older cousin, because of his support and guidance while growing up”.
One of Allan’s most memorable moments on the court was during his last season when he scored the winning basket during the last few seconds of a game. He shared that in that moment it taught him the importance of staying focused, even under pressure. Balancing academics and athletics can be challenging but Allan manages it with determination. He maintains a strong GPA, taking AP classes, and having high grades in all classes. Often staying after for extra help when needed. He stays organized with a schedule everyday made by his Mother. “My typical routine involves drills, running, lifting, shooting hoops, and team scrimmages.” Playing as a point guard he enjoys the strategic aspect of that position that it became a lifestyle for him.
Regarding team dynamics, Allan describes the team’s chemistry as “Strong and supportive” because they have been playing together for approximately 6 years. The best advice he received from a coach was “Keep working and stay humble.” During tough games or practices, he stays motivated by his parents and remembers his end goal.
Playing varsity basketball has helped him grow as a person, encouraging qualities like leadership, resilience, and discipline, while making important memories. Looking ahead, his goals for this season include going to states, winning games back to back, and improving skills. He aspires to play college basketball and dreams of earning a scholarship, with hopes of pursuing a successful future.
If given the opportunity, Allan would love to play basketball with Stephan Curry because “he has been my favorite player since I was a kid.” A fun fact most people don’t know is that Allan spends most of his time with his mom. He considers himself as a mama’s boy, and his favorite professional team is Golden State Warriors, with Stephan Curry being a part of this team.
Support from friends, family, and the school community played a vital role in Allan’s journey. “My family and friends always cheer me on and give me encouragement,” he says. Allan also believes in giving back by helping out the coaches and volunteering at community events, reinforcing the importance of teamwork. As this school year progresses, there’s no doubt that Allan will continue to inspire those around him with his deduction, leadership, and passion for the game. Whether it’s on the court or in the classroom, Allan represents what it means to be a student-athlete and a true leader in our school community.
