Celebrating Seniors!

Echo Staff

Signs started popping up in front of Amityville Memorial High School in the early morning hours of Friday, May 8th, 2020. Teachers and administrators wearing masks (and keeping at least 6 feet away from each other) placed the signs strategically on the front lawn. Soon, the seniors would arrive at designated times to pick up their personalized signs, celebrating their status as an Amityville senior.

The signs were purchased with donations from the administrator and teacher unions, faculty and staff members, the Amityville Parent-Teacher Council, the Board of Education trustees, and Superintendent Dr. Mary T. Kelly. Teachers and students were happy to see each other, even if it was bittersweet considering the times we are currently facing.

“It was a great day,” stated Library Media Specialist, Ms. Rosario. “I was so happy to see all the students’ faces as they picked up their signs.”

ENL teacher Ms. Morales added, “I loved being able to recognize our seniors! I was so happy to see our kids.”

This may not be how anyone envisioned the school year’s end, but seniors and staff still found a way to come together and celebrate– even if just for a day.
