Do you ever get bored of watching the same shows and want something new and interesting? Well, I have a show for you: Grey’s Anatomy.
Grey’s Anatomy focuses on the personal and professional lives of surgical interns, residents, and attending physicians at a Seattle hospital, originally called Seattle Grace Hospital. The show is set in Seattle, Washington, and centers on Meredith Grey, whose mother, Ellis Grey, was a world-renowned surgeon before developing Alzheimer’s disease.
Inspired by her mother’s legacy, Meredith becomes an intern and works toward becoming an exceptional surgeon herself. Like her mother, Meredith is known for being intelligent, determined, and, as she often describes herself, “dark and twisty.” Throughout the series, she grows from an insecure intern into a renowned Chief of General Surgery, a Harper Avery Award winner, and a devoted mother.
Meredith practically grew up in a hospital, which helped her feel comfortable in that environment and fostered her natural talent for medicine. She also had a close relationship with Dr. Richard Webber, who had an affair with Ellis Grey years earlier. Another important relationship in Meredith’s life is her friendship with Cristina Yang. Their friendship is one of the strongest in the show, and they often support each other through difficult times. Sometimes they would even share a bed just to talk about their feelings and everything happening in their lives.
Meredith also developed a strong friendship with Alex Karev. However, one of my favorite relationships in the series is between Meredith and Derek Shepherd. Their first meeting was memorable and a little chaotic. One of Meredith’s most famous lines is, “Pick me, choose me, love me,” which she says in Season 2, Episode 5. She says this because Derek’s estranged wife, Addison Montgomery (my personal favorite character), arrives at Seattle Grace Hospital hoping to win him back.
Eventually, Meredith and Derek get married and have children together. However, tragedy strikes in Season 11, Episode 21. Meredith also discovers that she has two half-sisters: Lexie Grey, who first appears in Season 3, Episode 24, and Maggie Pierce, who first appears in Season 10, Episode 23. Sadly, another heartbreaking event occurs involving Lexie in Season 8, Episode 24.
Meredith also develops a close relationship with Amelia Shepherd, Derek’s sister. One of my favorite episodes is when Meredith and Derek adopt Zola. Later, they expand their family even further and have two more children, Bailey and Ellis.
Now that you understand the basics of the show, I want to explain why I love it so much and why I think you should watch it. Grey’s Anatomy is interesting, emotional, and sometimes very funny. If you enjoy medical dramas, this is definitely a show worth watching. Even though it is very long, the characters and storylines keep you invested.
What I love most about the show is how deep it can be. It makes you laugh, cry, and sometimes even relate to what the characters are experiencing. If you’re looking for a show to watch over the summer, Grey’s Anatomy is a great choice. Shows are meant to make you feel something—whether it’s happiness, sadness, excitement, or comfort—and Grey’s Anatomy does all of that.
As Meredith Grey once said:
“A home is made of the people you fill it with.”
That quote perfectly captures one of the show’s biggest themes: the importance of family, friendship, and finding people who support you through life’s challenges.
