We’re Back!

Were Back!

Echo Staff

Welcome to the Amityville ECHO! Year 5!

About Us
The Amityville ECHO (www.amityvilleecho.com) was resurrected in the 2018-2019 school year in the form of an online publication as a way to bring students the latest in news, sports, pop culture, school events, and arts & entertainment.

In our first year reviving the paper, one of our journalism students (we had a great elective course!) actually landed an exclusive 25-minute phone interview with the iconic ESPN journalist, Stephen A. Smith! Many of our graduates have gone on to participate in college newspaper settings, as well as in important online news forums dealing with the many social, political, and educational issues facing our world today.

The Covid pandemic (and resulting pause of in-person events) really hampered some of our abilities during our second and third year of publication, but we remained committed to keeping our school community informed, and entertained. What we created during that time is now a primary source document of history; an important time capsule for future readers to learn from.

We returned to in-person publishing during the 2021-2022 school year and brought a lot of great content to our readers, including the introduction of a seasonal Crossword Contest and the continuation of our monthly awareness columns. Amin Shah, our music editor, even managed to interview Darryl McDaniels from the iconic hip-hop trio, Run-DMC!

In this, our 5th year (just our 3rd in person!), we plan to expand our coverage into the field of PODCASTING!

We welcome all AMHS students from grades 9-12 to participate in any way they feel they might be able to contribute. We’re always looking for students willing to conduct interviews (email and in person), write articles, edit articles, take photographs, attend school events, create artwork, and brainstorm story ideas, among other things!

We hope to offer diverse content, alternative perspectives, and differing opinions on a variety of issues. We would also love to feature articles in an array of different languages.

Our goal is to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. This is only the start of what we hope will be an ever-evolving source of carefully researched information coupled with creative expression.
