Every day something new happens, but not everything makes it onto the news. It is very devastating, someone gets kidnapped, passes away, and some of these mysteries remain unsolved, and don’t even have any light shed on them. One incident that has taken the news by storm is the Nancie Gunthrie case. An 84 year old woman was kidnapped from her Arizona Home on February 1st, 2026. It is currently February 25th, 2026 and no signs of life have been shown, and not hints of where she might be. Every day so many new things are posted to each news article, continuing to spread the word. How has this remained a top interest for so long?
Resources. In this specific case regarding Nancie Gunthrie, one of the reasons her story has taken the world by storm is due to her daughter Savannah. Savannah is a News Anchor for NBC news. Immediately she has the resources to post and spread anything she needs to, that will benefit the search for her mother.
Money. For those who can not afford to hire private investigators, or pay large sums as rewards to those who find the person who is missing, really can not do much else. It is not a problem that they can’t pay, but most people willing to help are in search of compensation. Just the other day, the reward to whoever finds Nancie Gunthrie is to be rewarded 1 million dollars.
Stereotype. When people hear “Someone viciously murdered” at x time and x location, you might think it is a man viciously murdering a woman. Not that it can’t be the other way around, but that has just been an ongoing stereotype. For example, Rex Hereman has recently been found to be the Gilgo Beach Murder, where he abused and murdered so many young girls, such as Shannon Gilbert. Gabby Petito made headlines years ago, after her boyfriend murdered her, and then his own life on a road trip. One thing that big headlines and attention grabbing stories have in common, is that most of the time, it is males that are the murderers and females, who are being murdered, kidnapped, or abused.
Is this the same scenario for all cases? No! Each and every one of them is different, all stemming from different reasons. Investigators are having trouble ruling out possible suspects, and the reasoning for Nancy’s kidnapping. Nancie is a 84 year old woman, who can not do much on her own physically, and without her medications. It’s becoming obvious that she was just used as bait to get what the kidnappers really wanted. Savannah is worth millions of dollars, is it to get into her pockets in exchange for her mom? That’s what it is looking like. However, the kidnapper is very stubborn after how many negotiation videos were made by Savannah and her siblings.
This violence has been seen more commonly recently, across the world. Just days ago, a Cartel leader was killed by special forces in Mexico. Ever since, those gang members have taken violence to the streets, and out on every and anyone. From setting cars on fire, to gas stations. This case is also in relation to high profile people, allowing for more media coverage to be available.
Is this fair? All media coverage has its reasons. They want talking points, they want to reach a target audience. However, to an extent it affects how some people get more help in cold blooded cases, whereas others are not as fortunate.
